Because the association between statins therapy and outcomes recovery after acute ischemic stroke from clinical studies is conflicting, the meta-analysis of observational and randomized trials by Danielle et al. investigated the relationship between statins therapy and outcome after acute ischemic stroke.
They concluded that pre-stroke statins use was associated with improved functional outcomes (mRS score 0 to 2) at 90 days but not 1 year, and with reduced fatality at 90 days and 1 year among observational studies,
In the single randomized controlled trial (SPARCL trial), statins treatment was associated with good 90-day functional outcomes. However, this association was not observed in thrombolysis-treated patients. Randomized controlled trials of acute post-stroke statins therapy in acute ischemic stroke were still needed [86].
