- I eat to live, not live to eat - For a very long time, I had a binge problem. I treated food like it was medication. The amount of food I ate was disgusting. A jar of peanut butter and nutella will be polished off in less than a day, I had two dinners every night because I ‘just was not feeling fantastic’. After a hundred failed attempts, I found something that works for me. I started eating simply. What this means is that I started eating meals that are free from extravagant sauces and difficult preparations. I stripped food down to its basics and started listening to how my body reacts. The result? My bloating problem is gone, my energy has sky-rocketed and my binge problem is gone!
- I stopped buying fast fashion - Fashion houses such as H&M and Forever21 are the definition of fast fashion. They produce batch after batch of poor quality clothes every month. The kick is that a lot of people buy it because it is affordable. However, most of their clothes go out of style after two months. What you think you have saved in clothes, ends up being expensive by hanging around in your closet, taking up space and urging you to buy more. It is a vicious cycle indeed. Now, I only buy clothes that I absolutely love, clothes of good quality and have great fit. This reduced my closet to half its size, and I wear every single piece of clothing I own.
- I purge my belongings on a monthly basis - If something in home has not been used in more than 2 months, I throw it out. Every belonging in my home has a purpose, this reduced the amount of clutter in my home and gives me something to look forward to when I come home everyday.
- I became the first person to start a conversation - You know those moments when two strangers are sitting beside each other but are too afraid to speak a word? I hate that. As much of an introvert I am, I genuinely enjoy talking to people and making them smile. There were countless times when I have been invited to a group function, and I am the only stranger in there. By breaking the ice, you establish yourself as a friendly person, opening yourself up to more opportunities. And if they don’t like you? So be it.
- I stopped exposing myself to ads - Social media platforms love to pump our timelines up with ads. Don’t notice it? Go to Instagram or Facebook and start scrolling. For every 5 posts, you will be exposed to a new ad. And the more ads you click on, the more it is shown to you. I don’t like them because ads convince you to want something that you never wanted or needed in the first place. Unnecessary.
