If statins can reduce total cholesterol to 150 or below, what incentive is there to change the diet in ways that naturally reduce cholesterol levels?

Drugs are merely a tool to reduce cholesterol and to keep your body fit and running. It may be an effective tool but if you're going to work to stay healthy why wouldn't you use every resource available?

To use an appropriate analogy, if I wanted to keep my house warm, I could turn up the heat. However, I could also do other things like use better insulation, regularly close doors, and allow for more sunlight. I could also improve the tools and strategies used by upgrading to a programmable thermostat and using better windows and radiators. These are all tools that could be used and relying entirely on one strategy is not an optimal way to manage the temperature of your house.

The same applies to your health and in this case, your cholesterol. Statins are a tool to control your cholesterol but will not be sufficiently robust. Introducing other cholesterol control mechanisms like diet, exercise, and maintaining regular assurance of your health by regular monitoring, knowing your family history, and checkups are all part of having better control of your health.

The same philosophy should apply to any drug. Drugs are a tool to fixing your health. They shouldn't be the only one. This is an opinion coming from a guy who most benefits from people buying drugs.
